Restaurants in Sanur, Bali

Like many tourist areas around the world, restaurants can come and go with the seasons. Even good and highly regarded restaurants can lose their leases, or have their chefs retire. The list below displays some of the many places we've tried in the Sanur area. Entries are dated according to last visit. For more ideas, check out Bali Eats.

Abian Boga
Indonesian & International - Sort of a dinner theater near the southern end of Sanur beach, just beyond the Hyatt. There's a Legong dance show every day, except Saturday, when they have a special Topeng dance. Free transportation from any Sanur area hotel. Tel. 287 174 August 2006
Star Cafe Bali
International - Comfortable "bistro" and internet cafe on Danau Tamblingan Street. Serves coffees, breakfast, sandwiches, etc. Breakfast is around 30,000 Rupiah (1.80 USD), sandwiches between 14,000 and 29,000. Internet computer usage runs 600 Rupiah per minute (0.04 USD). Tel. 743 9766 August 2006
Cafe Batujimbar
International - Relatively new restaurant on Danau Tamblingan Street near Hardy's Department Store. Very popular in the evenings, and for Sunday brunch they have a sort of barbecue / picnic affair. August 2006
Spirit Cafe
International - Right on the beach in a small shopping arcade, this cafe serves coffees (cappuccino: 15,000 Rupiah / 0.90 USD), many types of tea, breakfast (20,000 Rupiah / 1.20 USD and up) and lunch (40,000 Rupiah / 2.40 USD. The view from this open-fronted restaurant is quite nice. You look through a courtyard of frangipani trees out to the beach and ocean. August 2006
The Village
Italian - The Village appears to be a relatively new addition to the restaurants along Jalan Danau Tamblingan. The design features a somewhat "layered" structure. In front is a large outdoor area that seems to serve primarily as a bar. Next is a covered dining area that on my visit was otherwise completely opened to the night air. Finally, there is a fully enclosed dining room. Although a bit pricey as restaurants in Bali go, the food is quite good and the place is quite popular. Pasta dishes run from around 55,000 to 75,000 Rupiah (3.30 USD to 4.50 USD), while main dishes are 80,000 (4.80 USD) and up. There is a good selection of wines from 200,000 to 300,000 Rupiah (12.00 USD to 18.00 USD). August 2006
Bonsai Cafe
Indonesian - Little more than a shack, Bonsai seemed to be the most popular place for dinner on the beach, while may other places don't seem very busy at night. Perhaps it's the relatively cheap prices, with most dishes around 20,000 Rupiah (1.20 USD), although seafood items go up to 50,000 (3.00 USD). On the beach walk near Circle K mini-mart. August 2006
