Immediately south of the airport is a long curving stretch of sandy beach that was once home to nothing more impressive that a few fishing boats. All that started to change with a few seafood shacks on the beach, followed by a few big hotels looking for some place a little away from the crowds.

Now the beach is home to some of Bali's most exclusive beach resorts, such as the award winning Ayana (formerly the Ritz Carlton) which sits on the cliff-side at the far end of the beach.

However, Jimaran is still the place to go for a fresh-cooked seafood dinner right on the beach. There are around a dozen places to choose from, all with tables and chairs set up right on the sand. You pick out what you want from the tanks and iced tables as you enter, and it's cooked up for you any way you want over wood fires fuelled by coconut husks.
