Accessibility is probably one of the main reasons that Battambang doesn't get more visitors. Although the city does have an airport, there are no regular flights. There is a train line between Phnom Penh and Battambang, but service was discontinued in 2009. The entire rail network is currently being renovated, with work expected to be completed by 2013.
Boats are an option from Siem Reap. The trip can be particularly scenic, but the boats themselves are often of questionable safety. The trip can take five to seven hours.
Road travel is often the fastest and safest way to travel. There are regular buses between Battambang and Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Pailin. The bus fare runs from $5 to $7 for most destinations. Travel by bus to Siem Reap takes three hours, Phnom Penh six hours.
A private car or shared taxi is the fastest way to travel. From Phnom Penh the trip takes four hours or less and costs $60 to $70. Siem Reap takes a little less time and costs a little less money.
