As a popular destination for domestic tourism, Yogya does have a large number of hotels, especially inexpensive two and three star accommodations, as well as many traditional guesthouses (losmen). However, it does have some unbelievably stunning resorts dotted around the countryside, especially near Borobodur.
Closer to town, the Sheraton Mastika took our breath away the first time we set foot in it. Sadly, it was damaged by the May 2006 earthquake and was forced to close. It just reopened in 2008, and we haven't had a chance to see if it's back to its spectacular old self. If you want to stay close to all the action, then you want to be close to Malioboro Street, between the train tracks and the Kraton. There are a number of cheap hotels in this area near the train station, but be warned these can be noisy.
Here are our suggestions for Yogyakarta hotels for your consideration. If you don't like our choices, you can search multiple sites to find the best rates using the search box above.
- Dusun Jogja Village Inn
- Funky little boutique style hotel, somewhat away from the main tourist area, but still handy to most of the sights. Check out our review of the place.
- Hotel 1001 Malam
- A very affordable but still pleasant little hotel very near the train station. Check out our our review of the place.
- Hotel Ibis Malioboro
- A very good, solid tourist class hotel right in the middle of the action along Malioboro street.
- Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta Hotel
- Large, posh international hotel. Not very well located, but if you have the points&helllip;
- Sheraton Mustika Yogyakarta Hotel
- On the outskirts of town, quite close to the Prambanan in fact. Most rooms sport stunning views of Mount Merapi, and the pool is a little wonderland unto itself.
