Chinatown

The heart of Singapore's Chinatown is a series of narrow lanes running between South Bridge Road and New Bridge Road. The center of these is Pagoda Street, which is now closed to traffic. The Chinatown station on the North-East line of the subway lets out directly onto the Pagoda Street Mall.

A short way from the station on Pagoda Street is the Chinatown Heritage Centre. The rest of the street is lined with antique shops and souvenir stalls. Trengganu Street, which joins Pagoda and Temple Streets, is lined with restaurants. At the foot of Pagoda Street on South Bridge Road is the Sri Mariamman Hindu Temple.

The area is an official conservation area, where all buildings have been beautifully restored in their unique and colorful Chinese styles.
