Rikitikitavi Guesthouse, Kampot Review

July 2010

Rikitikitavi is widely regarded as the best of Kampot's accommodations, with good reason. With just five rooms, it's often full up on weekends, with people coming down from Phnom Penh for a break. The restaurant at the guesthouse is also quite popular and attracts people from other hotels. The wooden open-air front building houses the restaurant, bar and 'lobby'. This building covers what appears to be a much older colonial style building that houses the guest rooms, which are all on a single ground floor.

Guest rooms are large and have most of the modern conveniences you would expect - perhaps more than you expect in a guest house. There's both fan and air conditioning, hot water shower in the good-sized bathroom, a proper mattress and lots of pillows on the bed. The decoration is sort of contemporary Asian, with lights fashioned out of fish traps, etc. There was a good table for working as well as a couple of chairs. All the rooms appear to have a semi-private outdoor area, but as it was the rainy season when I visited, it wasn't too appealing.

Hotel facilities include a restaurant. The manager is also very helpful in arranging any day trips or transportation needs you may have. Unlike big hotels, they don't tack on a big fee to what the providers charge. You just pay the driver or guide directly for their services.

Rooms feature air conditioning, fan, hot and cold water, wi-fi Internet, color television with a wide range of international channels and safe.

Pluses: Excellent location, good restaurant.

Minuses: All rooms are on the ground floor, which can be less private. The design tries to mitigate this as much as possible, so it may not be an issue for most people.
