Inthira Hotel, Champasak

December 2011

The Inthira seems to be the best that Champasak has to offer. In fact, it's a bit of a surprise in a small town where most of the accommodations are small basic guesthouses. While not luxurious, the Inthira is still surprisingly good for its location.

The lobby and restaurant are housed in an old shophouse that's been completely gutted and refitted with a new second floor. Behind this are the four 'duplex' rooms with a living room on the first floor and bedroom above on the second. Behond these are the four bungalow rooms, showcasing Asian style with hardwood floors, local fabrics and artwork by local artists.

The open plan bathroom was large, with a huge outdoor shower as well as a bathtub. The water was heated by solar panels with a large storage tank, so it could be very hot but the supply was limited. The hotel's free wi-fi didn't extend to the rooms, but you could easily sit in the restaurant or lobby to use it.

Breakfast is included in the room rate and was very large. You could choose from four options, which included American, European and Lao breakfasts. All the options included a large plate of fruit, fresh squeezed orange juice, a baguette and coffee or tea.

The hotel had several bicycles and motorcycles for rent, and could also arrange for personal tours to Vat Phou as well as the city itself. They can also make all your arrangements for onward travel.

Hotel facilities include a restaurant, lounge, bike and motorcycle rental.

Rooms feature air conditioning, fan, hot and cold water, color television (several channels), IDD telephones, DVD player and hair dryer.

Pluses: Really comfortable rooms.

Minuses: none
