Pulau Weh Beaches

The coast of Pulau Weh is lined with small beaches, few of which are more than a hundred yards long or so. Most of them feature the requisite white sand and nearby amenities such as food stalls or boat rentals.

The most developed beach areas, relatively speaking, are Gapang and Iboih on the long finger of land forming the western side of the deep bay, opposite the main town of Sabang. This is where most of the best dive sites are, so many of the resorts here are oriented towards divers, although they will welcome anyone.

Gapang is the smaller of the two areas, with just a couple of large resorts, a few guest-houses and half a dozen or so places to eat. Iboih is much larger by comparison, with more places to stay as well as places to eat. Iboih also gets a lot more weekend day-trippers from Banda Aceh.

There are also a couple of areas on the islands east coast, where you'll get some great sunrise views. Near Sabang there are two or three small resorts perched on the cliff above one of the islands longest stretches of beach. Much further south is another area, Anoi Itam, with a few more resorts.
