Where to Eat & Drink in Mandalay

There aren't many restaurants catering to tourists outside of hotels in Mandalay. We found only one worth mentioning. There are probably more.

Cafe City
Located on the East Moat Road facing the walls of the royal city. Cafe City serves internatinal foods as well as some local dishes. A very pub-like atmosphere, and not too pricey, but service can be very slow, even when you're the only one there. [December 2005]
Black Canyon
This Thai restaurant chain opened a branch at the end of 2005. The location is excellent, on the corner opposite the south-east corner of the royal city. Making it even better, the restaurant has a second floor outdoor terrace that affords great views of the royal palace as well as Mandalay Hill. The menu is Black Canyon's standard offering of authentic Thai cuisine, with a sprinkling of western foods such as soups, sandwiches and salads. In addition to food, Black Canyon offers an extensive drinks menu with a full ranch of hot and cold coffees, as well as tea and fruit juices. [December 2005]
