Sarawak is Malaysia's largest state, and one of only four states that does not have a hereditary ruler. The capital and largest city of the state is Kuching, which is the natural place to start any visit to this vast region.

The city was founded in the nineteenth century, and under the White Rajahs became an important trading center for antimony, gold and timber. It's the buildings and institutions the Rajahs left behind that constitute most of the sights of Kuching today.
