Seminyak

Seminyak

Just north of the frenetically paced Kuta/Legian beach area is the relatively laid back area of Seminyak. While there are plenty of hotels lining the beach, there is relatively little other development, which can make a stay here much more pleasant than some of the other beach areas. Seminyak is perhaps the best place on Bali to stay if you want to laze about in the sun on an uncrowded beach all day, and then have an excellent dinner in a small restaurant in the evening, although some of the restaurants here are so popular, people come from other parts of south Bali to eat here. Reservations are required for some places.

Hotels

The pool at the former Resor Seminyak. Accommodations around Seminyak tend to be on the high end of the budget. However, with many small villas and other 'boutique' options, you can find great value for money, especially if staying a week or more. On the low end, I was especially happy with my stay at the Putu Bali Villas, which was quite good value for the money. On the higher end, many people have raved about the Legian, which sits right in the middle of Seminyak Beach.

Map

Like much of South Bali, the borders of a particular area can be a bit indistinct. Where Legian stops and Seminyak begins can depend on who you ask. For the purposes of this guide, I've drawn the line at Dhyana Pura street for the southern extent of Seminyak. The northern extent is formed by Petittenget Street when it curves away from the beach front. Restaurants

La Lucciola in Seminyak, before the dinner crowd arrives. Seminyak seems to have more than its fair share of highly regarded restaurants, places people drive from Kuta to eat at, but like many tourist areas around the world, restaurants can come and go with the seasons. Even good and popular restaurants can lose their leases, or have their chefs retire. The list below displays some of the places we've tried in the Seminyak area.

Putu Bali Villas

14 August 2009 The garden path to the villas at Putu Bali Villas, Bali The Putu Bali Villas were quite a surprise. I had selected this place based largely on the price and the location. Many of the accommodations along the north end of Seminyak tend to be a bit pricey, but Putu Bali seemed to be quite a reasonable price. Putu Bali offers a total of 15 villas, arranged in a long narrow lot off Jalan Petitenget about 10 minutes' walk from the beach.
