Soria Moria Hotel
August 2010
Soria Moria was opened in 2009, and quickly became popular, not only with hotel guests but with other visitors and residents who quickly took a liking to the roof-top bar. The location of the hotel is quite good. It's far enough away from the Old Market area to be quiet, yet still within easy walking distance. There are also a fair number of good restaurants along Wat Bo Street where the hotel is located.
Rooms at Soria Moria are large and simply decorated. Actually, the walls of my room were surprisingly devoid of any decoration at all, although a screw in the wall near the bed might indicate this was a recent, perhaps temporary, situation. The bathroom was a fairly standard hotel bathroom. Wireless Internet was freely available in the room.
The hotel has a restaurant on the ground floor where breakfast and other meals are served. Breakfast was a small buffet, with some nicely cooked eggs as well as meats, pancakes and other items. It was not an elaborate spread, but it was good. The hotel also has a rooftop bar that serves a tapas style menu. The weekly 'happy hours' on Thursdays are very popular.
Hotel facilities include one restaurant, roof-top pub and sundeck with jacuzzi, and spa services.
Rooms feature air conditioning, mini-bar, color television with several satellite channels, hair dryer, free wireless Internet and in-room safe.
Pluses: Convenient location, near restaurants but not 'in the middle of things.'
Minuses: None, really.
