Bopha Angkor Hotel Pool
The secluded pool area of the Bopha Angkor hotel.

NOTE: This hotel was closed for remodeling and scheduled to re-open in December of 2015. This review is based on a stay at the property long before the remodeling took place.

The Bopha Angkor is an very good option for those visiting Angkor Wat on a budget. The location on the river in Siem Reap is rather good, as it's just a short walk from the dining, shopping and night life around the old market. However, the busy road that separates the hotel from the river makes the rooms at the front of the complex rather noisy. I highly recommend paying extra for the deluxe rooms by the pool, which is near the back of the complex.

My own accommodation is a deluxe pool room. It was quite large, with a generous outdoor seating area, and indoor sitting room and queen size bed. An attempt was made to give the room local accents, in the form of cast stone trims and locally made silk curtains. However, the curtains would have been more appropriate in a bordello rather than a hotel room. The room was clean, but the bathroom in particular was looking very tired. This is a typical problem with locally run hotels around Southeast Asia.

The hotel's single restaurant serves a broad menu of local and international dishes. The food is good value for money, and the restaurant attracts more than a few non-hotel guests, especially in the evening. Breakfast is rather simple choice between a Western or Asian set.

Hotel facilities include one restaurant and a small swimming pool.

Rooms feature air conditioning, mini-bar, color television with several satellite English language channels and in-room safe.

Pluses: Good location.

Minuses: Cheapest rooms, nearest the street, can be noisy. Rooms are not equipped with hair dryers or toiletries. You will need to bring your own.
