Hotels

As it is in many tourist destinations, location is a very important consideration when selecting where you'll stay in Siem Reap. There are a large number of hotels spread out along the road from the airport towards the city. These are mostly tourist-class hotels patronized by the large tour groups. They're easy to get in and out of, for buses, but there's not much around them. You'll need to catch a taxi or tuk-tuk to the old market area to find a selection of restaurants, bars and shops.

There are several nice hotels in the old market area, as well as along Wat Bo street across the river, a short walk from the old market area, and this is where I prefer to stay. The Bopha Angkor, while not too fancy, is an old favorite of many people. Right behind it, the Soria Moria is also worth considering.

There is something to be said for the peace and quiet of some of the places further from town. If 'romance' is part of your Angkor holiday plans, then you might consider the Suites and Sweet resort (pictured above), between the town and the airport, but not on the airport road. It's an all suite resort, with free tuk-tuk shuttles into town if needed.

Below is a short list of other hotels that you may want to consider, which you can book on the Internet through one or more of our hotel partners. The box below/right shows some of the latest deals available for hotels in Siem Reap from Agoda, which guarantees the lowest rates available.

Bopha Angkor Hotel

29 January 2007 The secluded pool area of the Bopha Angkor hotel. NOTE: This hotel was closed for remodeling and scheduled to re-open in December of 2015. This review is based on a stay at the property long before the remodeling took place. The Bopha Angkor is an very good option for those visiting Angkor Wat on a budget. The location on the river in Siem Reap is rather good, as it's just a short walk from the dining, shopping and night life around the old market.

Soria Moria Hotel

August 2010 Soria Moria was opened in 2009, and quickly became popular, not only with hotel guests but with other visitors and residents who quickly took a liking to the roof-top bar. The location of the hotel is quite good. It's far enough away from the Old Market area to be quiet, yet still within easy walking distance. There are also a fair number of good restaurants along Wat Bo Street where the hotel is located.

Suites and Sweet Resort

August 2010 “Conventional wisdom” is that it's best to stay at a hotel in the center of Siem Reap, to be within walking distance to all the shops and restaurants. While it's hard to argue with the logic of this, having now sampled the charms of the "country life" outside the city, I have to say that a hotel away from the middle of things has its advantages. This revelation comes courtesy of the Suites and Sweet Resort, which is located between the airport and town, on a secondary road.
