While there is a lot to see all over Flores, the eastern portion has the biggest concentration of tourist sights, and is slightly better developed than other parts of the island. Flores' main tourist sight, the Kelimutu Crater Lakes, is high up in the mountains of East Flores.
The main city of East Flores, the largest town on Flores in fact, is Maumere on the north coast. This is your most likely entry and exit point to the region. Although there isn't really anything to see in the city itself, it has a fairly nice beach.
Ende
The other major city in East Flores is Ende on the south coast. There are some interesting things to see around Ende, including a beach of turquoise colored stones. Although Ende has an airport, it does not seem to have regular air service to the rest of Indonesia.
