My room at the Amanjaya
The Amanjaya has a nearly perfect location on the waterfront in the middle of Phnom Penh. The National Museum is just a block away, with the Royal Palace just a block further, while Wat Phnom is just a short walk away in the other direction. Each of the large 20 rooms has either a view of the river or of Wat Ounalom and Sisowath Quay, or both. The hotel's restaurant "K West" is open from 7:00 a.m. until late, and is popular with guests from other nearby hotels. Since the hotel is in the middle of a "restaurant row" along Sisowath Quay, you're never "trapped" into eating at the hotel.
Each of the large rooms has rosewood floors and furniture, upholstered in hand-woven silk. The rooms are furnished with two arm chairs, a sofa, large coffee table, desk with chair, king-size bed and TV cabinet, yet they are large enough that they can seem sparsely furnished. All rooms also have a small balcony with a table and two chairs. The equally large bathrooms have large tubs with separate shower as well as an enclosed toilet.
Hotel facilities include wireless internet (requires pre-paid card) and a boutique.
Rooms feature air conditioning, hot and cold water, mini-bars, complementary coffee and tea, color televisions with a wide range of international channels, hair dryer, safe, wi-fi internet access and IDD telephones.
Pluses: Excellent location, near restaurants, sights and shopping. Friendly and very helpful staff.
Minuses: No pool or fitness center. Not a big drawback, but when the weather is hot, a pool would be nice.
