The Suites & Sweet Resort outside of Siem Reap

As it is in many tourist destinations, location is a very important consideration when selecting where you'll stay in Siem Reap. There are a large number of hotels spread out along the road from the airport towards the city. These are mostly tourist-class hotels patronized by the large tour groups. They're easy to get in and out of, for buses, but there's not much around them. You'll need to catch a taxi or tuk-tuk to the old market area to find a selection of restaurants, bars and shops.

There are several nice hotels in the old market area, as well as along Wat Bo street across the river, a short walk from the old market area, and this is where I prefer to stay. The Bopha Angkor, while not too fancy, is an old favorite of many people. Right behind it, the Soria Moria is also worth considering.

There is something to be said for the peace and quiet of some of the places further from town. If 'romance' is part of your Angkor holiday plans, then you might consider the Suites and Sweet resort, between the town and the airport, but not on the airport road. It's an all suite resort, with free tuk-tuk shuttles into town if needed.
